Emergency Supply List – Long Term Home Survival

Check expiration dates on everything you buy. The farther out the expiration date the more you should consider buying.

BASIC SUPPLIES

  • Six months of  supply of non-perishable food (dried fruit, canned tuna fish, peanut butter, etc.)
  • Six months to 2 year supply of long term storage food
  • Can openers
  • Paper plates, plastic cups and utensils, paper towels
  • Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties
  • Do we need to say toilet paper?
  • Dish soap
  • SOS pads
  • Baking soda
  • Peroxide
  • Essential oils
  • Rags
  • Water – at least a gallon per person, per day for drinking; better yet, buy a Berkey Water Filter. Store-bought water has a one to two-year shelf life.
  • First aid kit
  • Life-sustaining medication
  • Multiple pairs of glasses
  • Sleeping bag or warm blankets
  • Clothes – In case of supply running low for a long time
  • Sturdy shoes – Consider the weather where you live
  • Matches – Buy by the box
  • Toothbrush, toothpaste, soap and other personal items
  • Feminine hygiene supplies
  • Fire extinguisher
  • Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
  • Patches for pipe bursts
  • Tool kit
  • Dust mask, plastic sheeting and duct tape – In case of contaminated air
  • Battery-powered or hand-cranked radio
  • Flashlights
  • Cell phone with solar charger
  • Solar charged batteries for everything
  • Perimeter alarms solar powered
  • Whistle to signal for help
  • Household chlorine bleach and medicine dropper to treat water
  • Household liquid bleach – Do not use scented bleach

  • Print out how-to references from the computer
  • Important family documents such as copies of insurance policies, ID, and bank records in a waterproof pail
  • 5-gallon water jug
  • Rainwater collection barrel
  • Chain Saw – if you have off the grid solar panels, buy electric
  • Pet supplies

  • Paper and pencils
  • Copy paper books, games or puzzles
  • First aid books, foraging books or information from www.ready.gov.

FOOD SUPPLY LIST

Water reminder: Reminder you can go three weeks without food but only three days without water. Stock up the shelves in your home with water and find an alternative water source that you can run through your Berkey water filter. Suppose you don’t have a Berkey; start learning how to purify your water and keep instructions or books handy.

  • Freeze Dried Meat:  Takes less space than canned meat.
  • Dried Meat: Can last for over a year.
  • Dried fruits and vegetables: 5 years shelf life
  • Beans, lentils and rice: Cheap, long shelf life. Just remember that they take forever to cook.
  • Canned tuna in oil
  • Ramen Noodles
  • Instant Mashed Potatoes
  • Protein bars and granola bars
  • Pickles/Preserves
  • Oatmeal
  • Cereals
  • Coffee, Tea
  • Peanut butter

REMINDER WE ARE NOT STORING HEALTHY FOODS BUT SURVIVAL FOODS

Buy the things you usually use in bulk and rotate your stock but get some long-term food if the shelves go bare.

  • Coconut Oil
  • Honey – it never goes bad
  • Salt
  • Soy Sauce
  • Vinegar – For food storage
  • Seeds
  • Dehydrated foods
  • Seasonings (vanilla, salt, pepper, paprika, cinnamon, pepper, taco seasoning, etc.)
  • Bouillon cubes or granules (chicken, vegetable, beef)
  • Kitchen staples (baking soda, baking powder, yeast, vinegar)
  • Whole grains (barley, bulgur, cornmeal, couscous, oats, quinoa, rice, wheat berries)
  • Cereals
  • Seeds for eating and sprouting – You must now prepare to grow your food. There is a lot of chatter about this supply chain disruption and its potential to be purposely created. So far, we only have anecdotal evidence that this may be true, but be prepared regardless.
